AN OPEN LETTER
To Every Child Whose Cries Went Unheard
There are no AMOUNT of words that can erase the hunger you have endured;
the nights you have cried yourselves to sleep; the moments you wondered if
anyone in this world saw you. We see you now.
From the depths of our hearts, we are sorry.
We are sorry that generations before us built a world where children could be
forgotten.
We are sorry that while so much wealth existed, so many hands were left empty for
what was rightfully yours.
We are sorry that your tears were too often met with silence.
You deserve to be nourished.
You deserve to be protected.
You deserve to laugh without fear.
You deserve to know that your life has infinite value.
Today, we choose to stop looking away. We do not come to you out of pity. We
come to you in love.
We come as one divine family recognizing that your pain is our pain; your dignity is
our dignity;
you are the foundation for building Heaven on Earth.
Your future is our shared responsibility.
Our apology will not end with words.
It will be seen in the meals we serve, the hands we hold,
the schools we help build,
the homes we restore and the lives we stand beside.
We will measure our sincerity
not by what we promise, but by what we do.
Never again should a child wonder if the world has forgotten them.
To every child who has suffered, we say this:
You are seen. You are loved. You are worthy.
And from this day forward, we will do everything within our power
to build a world
that reflects your worth.
